Food to eat while at Sled Island!

If this is your first time to Calgary you may need some help finding the best places to eat while here.

First up is Tubby Dog, one of the best places in the world (whether you like hot dogs or not!). It is also serving as a venue for some amazing bands and showcases.

Wednesday the POP Montreal showcase will start @ 8PM with Play Guitar, Sans AIDS, and Pat Jordache.

Thursday @8PM its Maria in the Shower, Dreamdate, and BJ Snowden.

Friday CRFC (campus/community radio in Saskatoon) is presenting @ 3PM Friends Electric, Foggy Notions, Shooting Guns and Feral Children. Later on in the day at 8PM will be Teengirl Fantasy, Yip Deceiver, and GOBBLE GOBBLE.

Saturday the Mint Records Showcase starts at 3PM and hosts the Ramblin’ Ambassadors, Dead Ghosts, Hot Panda, Slam Dunk. In the evening at 11PM starts with Kingdom Cloud, Shortwave Society and a SECRET GUEST!

All these bands are available with the option of purchasing one of their tasty dogs (you can get veggie dogs too!) such as the Sherm’s Ultimate Gripper: A dog wrapped in bacon, deep fried, topped with ham, chili, cheese, bacon, mustard, hot peppers, onions and a fried egg! Woah!

If you need more of a reason then the above amazing bands to go to Tubby, then check out the video below from a 2009 performance.

My favorite restaurant in Calgary is The Coup, they are one of the only all vegetarian restaurants in the city. This is a modern food eatery with a lounge attached to the side called Meet. I’ve had some amazing smoothies and sandwiches at this place but they also jazz up Hot Pots, Shawarmas and Burgers.

Another veggie restaurant that specializes in raw and gluten free food  Gratitude Cafe is in Kensington, one of the hippest neighbourhoods in Calgary, and just across the river from downtown.

Will all this talk of food I’m drooling for some music. Here’s a video from Sleep, stoner-Doom Metal band playing on Friday at Olympic Plaza!
